To the Godspeed Family:

The winter season was brutal. I knew it would be. It was humiliating. It was a wake-up call. And it was exactly what we needed. I call it a blessing wrapped in mud.

There is a scene in The Dark Knight Rises where Batman tries to use the shadows to intimidate his enemy, Bane. Bane doesn't flinch. He steps forward and says: "You merely adopted the dark. I was born in it, molded by it." He then hands Batman the most absolute, devastating defeat of his life.

Why? Because you cannot break a man with the darkness when the darkness is what built him.

That is what this winter did for us. It molded us. When you take the kind of losses we took, it strips away your ego. There is nowhere to hide. Excuses burn away, and you are left looking in the mirror, forced to decide exactly who you are going to be.

I didn't run from that feeling. I sat in it. I let the frustration harden my resolve. Easy wins make you soft. Humiliation makes you dangerous, if you use it right. The darkness of this season showed us exactly where we were weak, so now we know exactly where to build.

These losses did not break us. They sharpened me. A fire has been lit in the hardest season we've faced, and I am completely committed to the standard of excellence.

When things get tough, some people fold. Some jump ship. Godspeed will not. Parents, we need your full commitment.

This is bigger than basketball. We are building.
